Introduction to R and Transformations Applied to Economic Series

Course period: 06/05/2025 to 09/05/2025

The mini-course focused on practical applications aimed at analyzing economic data. We began with a general presentation of the tool's interface and the fundamental concepts of the language, such as the different types of data and the creation and manipulation of objects.

We then moved on to the topic of data indexing, addressing ways of accessing and organizing information contained in data sets. We also discussed the main logical structures used in analyses and ways of applying automatic routines to work with large volumes of information.

The second part of the meeting focused on importing and processing real databases, including files in different formats and national public databases. Strategies were developed to organize, clean and transform these databases, in order to enable consistent analyses.

We ended the week with an applied module on common transformations in economic series, using data such as GDP, inflation, interest rates and employment. Techniques were demonstrated to facilitate trend analysis, comparisons over time, monetary corrections and the construction of derived indicators.

The mini-course provided solid introductory training, connecting the concepts of the R language with the practical challenges faced in empirical analyses in the field of Economics.
